Morton Pharmacy exiting retail pharmacy business
to focus on long-term care pharmacy
(Neenah, Wis.) - Today, Morton Pharmacy announced the sale of retail pharmacy operations to Walgreens. Morton will continue as a long-term care pharmacy provider serving patients in assisted living facilities and nursing homes. Morton Safety and the pharmacy location in Winneconne are not included in this transaction and will remain open.
The primary reason Morton is closing retail pharmacy locations is the current and anticipated future health care environment that no longer sustains their retail pharmacy mission, practice model and scope of services. Walgreens was selected for this divestiture because of their expertise in retail pharmacy, willingness to interview Morton Pharmacy employees interested in working for Walgreens and proximity to Morton Pharmacy locations. For most locations, Walgreens is the next closest pharmacy and in some cases they are directly across the street. Retail patient prescription records will be automatically transferred to Walgreens on September 1, 2011.
The Morton family is very grateful for over 79 years of support from the Fox Valley Community. They are appreciative for the patronage and trust provided by so many customers, friends and colleagues. Morton looks forward to serving the community as a long-term care pharmacy provider.
