Morton Pharmacy Publishes 75-Year History
(Neenah, Wis.) - On Monday, July 30, 2007, all 11 Morton Pharmacy stores will celebrate the company’s first store that opened on that day 75 years ago in downtown Neenah. Twenty years later in 1952, when Charles Morton moved his shop one block west to 108 W. Wisconsin Avenue, he ran an ad for the grand opening that offered “Free Orchids for the Ladies, Free Smokes for the Men, Free Balloons for the Kiddies.” This year’s anniversary will once again give orchids, (chocolate) cigars and balloons to customers who come in that day.
According to Steve Morton, Morton Pharmacy CEO and third-generation business co-owner along with his three siblings, likes the idea of tying the celebration to the company’s rich history. “We set out to commemorate our 75th anniversary with a focus on how our pharmacy and even our old soda fountains, have impacted families. We’ve heard from people who met at Mort’s and later married, from retirees, even kids who used to ride along on their dad’s Morton delivery routes. It’s been a fantastic experience, and this celebration is just one small way we can say thank you. And it’s fun and different.”
